'A dog with a rose in its teeth'

There once was a dog with a rose in its teeth
Travelled all night to the Bunbury Heath
He wore a slim sword in a spiderweb sheath
And his job was to make the world better.

He knew how to fight and he knew how to smile
He knew that his time would be gone while
He knew how to act without cunning or guile
For his job was to make the world better.

He was seeking a place where the sound of his bark
Would echo like music through Bunbury park
And call all the dogs to come out of the dark
To look for the source of the matter.

So come all you dogs bring your noses to me
And sniff out the source of this fiddle de dee
You can trust what you smell but not what you see
And our job is to make the world better.

Now things are improving on Bunbury Heath
Thanks to the dog with the rose in his teeth
Thanks to the dogs that came out of the night
To follow their noses into the light

So come all you dogs bring your noses to me
And sniff out the source of this fiddle de dee
Thanks to the dogs who come out of the night
To follow their noses into the light

Into the light,
And our job is to make the world better
Into the light
And our job is to make the world better.
